Pixieset is good software. That is why it can charge what it charges. But somewhere between the third storage-limit email and the yearly bill, most photographers ask the same question: am I using enough of this to justify $20 a month?

For a lot of us, the honest answer is no. We use two features - a place to show work and a way to hand clients their photos - and we pay for a studio suite. This post breaks down what Pixieset costs in 2026, when the full suite earns its bill, and what the cheap route gives up.

What Pixieset actually costs in 2026

Per current pricing, Pixieset's client-gallery plans look like this:

The free plan is real but tight: 3 GB is one wedding, maybe two portrait sessions. Most working photographers land on Plus, which is where the $240-a-year math in this post's title comes from. And that is before the website add-on, which Pixieset prices separately from galleries.

When Pixieset is worth every dollar

Fair is fair. Keep paying Pixieset if any of these describe you:

• You sell prints through your galleries. Pixieset's print store and lab fulfillment are the core of the product. Nothing at the $49 level touches this.
• You run the whole studio through it. Contracts, invoicing, and booking on the Studio side replace two or three other subscriptions. Bundled, the price starts making sense.
• You deliver terabytes. High-volume shooters who archive every delivery in the gallery need the storage tiers, full stop.

If you read that list and thought "I just want my work online and my clients served", the next section is the $191-a-year difference.

The $49 route: publish it from Lightroom Classic

The part that stops most people is not the money, it is the moving. Here is the sane order of operations, whichever alternative you pick:

1. Do not cancel Pixieset yet. Downgrade to the free plan if storage allows, or ride out the month you already paid for. You want overlap, not a gap.
2. Rebuild the portfolio first. It has no deadlines attached. In Keptfolio's case this is the fast part: your collections already are the site structure, so the first publish from Lightroom Classic takes minutes, not a weekend of dragging files into a browser.
3. Let active client galleries expire in place. Deliver new jobs on the new system and let old Pixieset links live out their download windows. Nothing gets migrated; it just drains.
4. Update the links everywhere last. Instagram bio, email signature, Google Business profile. This is the step everyone forgets, and it is why photographers keep paying for galleries nobody visits.

One real warning: your photos live in your catalog either way, but client-facing artifacts do not. If past clients still reference old Pixieset galleries, screenshot the layouts and export the gallery list before the plan lapses. Every one of those is a website you maintain in a browser, though. The thing none of them do is treat your catalog as the source of truth - which is the entire point of the publish-service approach.

Pixieset's own free plan is the practical one: 3 GB, enough to trial the workflow or serve one small shoot at a time. Nothing free handles ongoing client work well - you end up deleting old galleries to make room, which is its own tax on your time.

Can clients still download full-resolution files?

With Keptfolio, yes - delivery galleries serve the real files, and client picks sync back into your catalog as star ratings. That last part is something Pixieset cannot do, because it does not know your catalog exists.

Why do gallery services get expensive so fast?

Because delivery files are huge and they accumulate. A single wedding delivered at full resolution is 5-15 GB, so a year of steady work blows through the 10 GB Basic tier and lands you on the 100 GB plan whether you meant to upgrade or not. Do I need a Creative Cloud subscription for the Lightroom route?
